Joe abercrombie and fitch kicks off his series which has a masterful debut. "The Blade Itself: The very first Law" is a heroic fantasy without conventional heroes. The author creates a sense of realism within a world of magic to deliver an awesome tale I couldn't put down.
In the city of Adua, Former soldier Sand dan Glokta, disfigured and crippled after being tortured over the last war, is now an Inquisitor and torturing confessions out of others. Captain Jezal dan Luthar, a pompous young nobleman, is a good swordsman but he spends his days drinking and cheating at cards. abercrombie uk in the Northlands a brutal warrior, Logen Ninefingers, loses my way through a savage attack and it's traveling south to find the powerful magician Bayaz. The wizard can be a bald, bad tempered old man. He would be the First of the Magi, or he could be a fraud. But he's the hope these misfits have. Trouble is brewing and these men shall be drawn together to fight political conspiracy and ancient evil.
The story is told in the point of view of several characters plus the author eventually pulls their plot lines together. Abercrombie and fitch takes his serious amounts of uses it to gift to create extraordinary personalities. It's clearly the cast that take center stage here. Their dialogue is stuffed with cynicism and clever wit. Their life is full of intrigue, bloody battles and magic. The struggle scenes are graphic so be fore-warned. There's also a bit of swearing - it may not be a story for the squeamish.
